Gathering to a point
As before up until just before you come out of the glass, but instead of moving forward as you leave the surface of the glass you pull the iron back towards you gently. This will create a point at the centre of the tip of the gather. The very nature of gathering to a point will always bring out less glass than the standard gather when using the same amount of left and right finger turns per gather.
Semi-Turns are the action of either the left or the right hands fingers turning the iron once. This is done alternately. Each turn will be on average around 300° to the 360° mark. If your hands allow you to do more, this is great. The thicker the iron the shorter each semi turn will be, but with the thicker blowing iron end, more surface area; more glass is gathered up.
